Exploring Suramar by MadAlleyCat Exploring Suramar by MadAlleyCat
As a master illusionist, Edyne took Siavash with him through a portal to Suramar to explore the broken empire. Forced to be under cover, the mage covered their hides through magic, and so they walked through the streets to find many wonders as well as horrifying displays.
Siavash had never seen such sights before and it made a huge impression on him to see a city of such size under dictate of the Burning Legion. In fact, he's rarely seen what his "personal genie" is doing when he's not strutting around as drag, in his company. This was quite something different!

Background is an in game print screen, while I painted the two characters under cover as Nightfallen.

Edyne, the crook to the right with the British teeth, is :iconsilithid-pies:'s character
Siavash, that now looks like a young, blue Gandalf, is my own crook!

Setting it from world of warcraft.

This looks like a scene you would see in a Disney film, I can really see that as an animation :)

I hope to make a wow comic when I'm a little better at art and perhaps learn to do digital art, I've always wanted to do one on a pirate crew with a badass nelf captain.

I really adore this expansion and I think it'll be hard for them to make a better one, but I don't discourage them to at least try.

The pic is absolutely delightful! I love how you managed to capture both the mischiev in Edyne's eyes as well as the amazement in Sia's!

Haha, thank you!
It's one of the things I find rather interesting in this pair's intern dynamics, which I wanted to feature in this picture.
When they had just met, Edyne usually came out as the sweet and slightly timid one while Siavash was the reckless provocateur. Yet the moment they're on their own, the roles changed a lot! Edyne is the one with the wildest ideas that makes Siavash look so innocent in comparison.
Now when Edyne returned after a longer seperation, he's changed a bit - His more outrageous self is showing more in public and his way of jesting reveals a lot more of their dynamic to the outwards world too.
The whole drag part for instance is something he dresses in publicly now, and even more explicit than in past - To begin with this started as a completely unexpected surprise for Siavash, and it really fucked with the man! He found the display itself kind of repulsive yet at the same time he loves to be provoked, and he's very attracted to Edyne's gumption and sense of expression. It trickers Siavash' curiousity, and Edyne knows he can make the man do a lot of things if he can just perk his curiosity. Like the consent to polymorph him and walk through a city of demons, to go shopping for his amusement! Siavash would never do such thing under normal circumstances!

Lol, "British teeth". They look smashing, indeed.

Wonderful piece. You do lineart and cell-shading(?) (I'm a noob) so well.

Heheh, Edyne is British and defined them as that - so I allow myself to do the same with no means of offense!

I'm a little unsure of what you mean with cell-shading?
My workflow included a sketching process (sometimes a touch up) before cleaning the lineart up on a seperate layer. Afterwards I use magic wand to select and contract the selection to keep within the lines. Once I have the base shape, I use a million layers of clipping masks ontop, to stay within the base volume.
I use color balance + hue/saturation settings a lot, to make sure the colors are somehow harmonic to each other
Once all surfaces is filled with the colors I want them to be, I add a clipping mask to color the line art.
After all this is covered, I group it, and use another set of clipping masks to ass shadow and light. I usually add a mask on the clipping mask to edit the filling.

Hope that it answered your question somehow! :)

Ah! Yeah, the other day I was reading someone (who had a lot of western animation/Disney-esque drawings in their gallery)'s shading tutorial, and they called their shading process celshading, so that's where I got it from. Might be completely wrong, though. I wouldn't know as I'm a total rookie when it comes to these styles :D (Big Grin), but it's very informative to read about the steps behind it. I really dig how clean these particular works of yours look.

Thanks for taking the time to explain!

Ah yeah. Usually cel-shading is a term used in 3D art. I think I get what you mean, and basically the way I made the shadows was by grouping the color and outlines in a folder and lie a clipping mask over that folder, to fill it with a multiplied layer of shadow. Then I converted it to a mask and slowly erased the shadow where the light was supposed to be.
Normally I'd be using a core shadow and a 2ndary shadow to give more depth, but I thought in this case it worked by being just simple as that.

Eeee! This was a great surprise to find in my inbox! Thank you friendo! :>

All this power and espionage and Edyne uses it to take Siavash to the zoo and mess around at the markets, buying shaldo'icecream. ... As well as traumatizing Siavash by tending to withered and occasionally polymorphing some nosy guards. ... That was a fun day out! =D

You're welcome, I had fun too!
... On a side note, considered what these NPC guards must go through on a daily patrol they do take it rather easy, don't you think? :D

They're too busy eating shal'dorice cream to even notice the two suspiciously ridiculous nightborne with beard and weird teeth between them!

hahah, in spite Edyne was effin' suspect by crawling around in the bushes and stuff... And impressively unaffected by the many demons walking around, dictating the civilian!

He's used to it! He's gotten pretty jaded about demons these days. They're more just a really obnoxiously green inconvenience to the little wizard.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I use magic. I see you trying to convert me to using the green stuff. w/e been there, licked the green crystals. Bought the shirt."

As for the bushes! ... Well. A rogue he ain't <3
